CBC presented the 2016 Das Gupta Memorial Lecture at the 27th Annual Meeting of EMSI,. The meeting was held in Varanasi from June 6-10, 2016. Prof. N.N. Das Gupta was the Founding President of EMSI and actually built his own horizontal TEM in India.

The event was reported in the Times of India and The Pioneer. Reporting the opening of a conference on Electron Microscopy in the Times and the Pioneer underlines the importance that India is now placing on manufacturing. |

CBC met with Scott Russell at Oklahoma State University after presenting a talk as the MSA Traveling Speaker at the Oklahoma Microscopy Society “The Future of TEM &Why We Must Remember the Past”. The Society met in conjunction with the 104th Technical Meeting of the Oklahoma Academy of Science at Oklahoma City University Nov 13, 2015.
In the meeting room near Scott's office sits this TEM, along with past posters from the Societies' Ugly Bug Contest. (An outreach program to local schools.) So when they have a meeting, they can never forget the past! Below is another reminder of the past -a beautiful memorial seen at night before the OMS meeting. |

YUCOMAT 2015 was again held in Herceg Novi in Montenegro. CBC presented and invited talk. Two of the other invited speakers at the meeting are seen relaxing opposite, though Cs correction and holography were never far away.

AMTC4 in Hamamatsu in May 2014
CBC presented an Invited Talk on TEM Studies of Nanomaterials and Nanodevices at AMTC4 in Hamamatsu, Japan on 8th May, 2014. (Hamamatsu is where Suzuki, Honda and Yamaha all began and have their Headquarters!) He then gave an Invite talk entitled Reactions In-Situ and Ex-Situ at the Annual Meeting of the Japan Microscopy Society and addressed the Banquet as President of IFSM.

As an MSA tour speaker, CBC presented the Plenary talk "Challenges for TEM and TEMers" at the Spring meeting of the Southern California Microscopy Society in February 2014. • Joysurya Basu spent 3 months at NIST from November 2012 thru February 2013. He is now back at IGCAR (near Mumbai) in India.

• CBC's 5-year term as Head of the Department of Chemical, Materials and Biomolecular Engineering ended on 30 June 2012. CMBE was then split back into 2 separate Departments. On Wednesday 14th November, while CBC was visiting the MSE Department at the U. of Florida, presenting a seminar, the UConn Board of Trustees voted to separate CMBE into 2 Departments: MS&E and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. e is now a full Prof. in both Department and (effective August 2012) a CINT Distinguished Affiliate Scientist at Sandia National Labs in New Mexico. CINT is a DOE Center jointly located at Sandia and Los Alamos.He is on Sabbatical leave for the 2013/14 academic year.

Dave Mitlin met the TEM class on 15 March 2013 and discussed the background to his work on batteries.

Bruno De Cooman's book published by AISTTitle: Fundamentals of Steel Product Physical Metallurgy
Bruno's book was published in 2011 and is available through Amazon.
Bruno received his Ph.D. in the grouop at Cornell in 1987. After periods at Philips, Endhoven, and the University of Ghent, he moved to GIFT (the Graduate Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy at Postech in Pohang South Korea) where he is now a Director.

We are rebuilding the group following the end of my term as Department Head. Three of our undergraduates Anna Matus (left), Jason Chan, Anju Nellissery and Nathan Martin have all graduated. Jason joined PennState in August 2013 (following Ryan Keech in 2012), Anya joined the UConn Dental Program, Anna became employed and Nathan joined Penn State in August 2014. (Jason joined us as a sophomore and was the 2012-13 Materials Advantage Chapter President; Nathan later served as the Vice-President.)
