IFSM is now a Full Member of ICSU, the International Council for Science
The President, Vice-President, General Secretary and Treasurer of IFSM all attended the General Assembly of ICSU in Taipei, Taiwan, on 23 thru 26 October 2017. IFSM's application to change its status from Scientific Associate to Full Member of the International Council for Science was presented to the GA by Kazuo Furuya and approved by the GA after a recommendation to to so by the Executive of ICSU.
At the same meeting ICSU and ISSC were deciding on combining their efforts into one new Council. ICSU has more than 30 Union Members (including the the IUCr, the IAU, IUPAP and IUMRS), and more than 130 National Members(including the NAS in the USA and the Royal Society in the UK) The 4 IFSM attendees were hosted at dinner by the President of the Microscopy Society of Taiwan |

Opening of CEMASCEMAS, the new microscopy center at Ohio State University, was officially opened on September 18, 2013. Barry Carter, as President of IFSM, was an invited speaker at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Dave McComb, the Center Director, cut the ribbon.

Planning for IMC18Planning for IMC18 continues wherever 2 or more members of the IFSM Executive Board meet. Eva Olsson, Guillermo Solorzano and Barry Carter met at the MACAN Capstone meeting 20-23 April 2013. (MACAN is an EU funded project headed by Wayne Kaplan of the Technion.)

56th meeting of the Japanese Society of Microscopy
JSM held its fall meeting in Sapporo on 19-20 November 2012. With more than 2,500 individual members, JSM is one of the largest societies for microscopy and a Group IV member of IFSM. One highlight of this meeting was a session on high-voltage microscopy. There are currently 10 operating HVEMs in Japan. Youn-Joong Kim presented an overview of HVEM activities in S. Korea, pointing out that a new machine will be installed soon. Syo Matsumura presented the overview of HVEM in Japan. The meeting was chaired by Somei Ohnuki of Hokkaido U. IFSM President Barry Carter presented an invited talk including the status of IFSM and the state-of-the-art of in situ TEM.
Many of the leaders of JSM were present including Hirotaro Mori, the President of JMS, and Kazuo Furuya, the Secretary of IMC-15.
EMC2012: Manchester
The IFSM Executive Board met with most of the 10 winners of the IFSM Young Scientist Award at the EMC in Manchester. Also present with IFSM President Barry Carter and Conference Chair Debbie Stokes are Executive Board members Guillermo Solórzano, Christian Colliex, Eva Olsson, Brendan Griffin, José Carrascosa, Joachim Mayer, Alan Craven and Pavel Hozak.
Opening of New TEM in Manchester during EMS 2012
Gracie Burke hosted most of the IFSM Board at the opening of the new TEM on Wednesday, September 19th, 2012. Peter Duncumb, the man who first attached an X-ray spectrometer to an EM, was the Guest of Honor. The Head of the Materials School, Paul O'Brien, and the IFSM President also spoke at the event. 33rd Annual Meeting of EMSI (Electron Microscopy Society of Indian)
IFSM President Barry Carter meets with students Saurabh, Priti, Alex and Sidhartha after his talk. The meeting was held at the IISc in Bangalore from 2-4 July 2012 and was chaired by Prof Ravi Ravishankar.

CIASEM 2011
CIASEM 2011 was held in Merida. Raynald Gauvin (holding poster right) was the President of CIASEM. Barry Carter (also holding poster) and Brendan Griffin (middle back) joined the conference organizers, José Reyes Gasga (far left) and Jesús Arenas Alatorre (far right), in welcoming the IFSM-sponsored students. Several are seen in the photo. The next meeting in 2013 will be held in Cartagena, Colombia.
Antalya 2011
The Biennial meeting of the Turkish Society for Electron Microscopy took place in Antalya, on the Mediterranean coast in Southwest Turkey. IFSM Executive BoardMember, Joachim Mayer, Wim Bushing (FEI) and IFSM President, Barry Carter, met with students and other colleagues at the poster session.
